Boating & Sailing in Squamish
Explore the fjord and soak in the views of the Stawamus Chief and surrounding mountains from the sea. Bring your own craft or hire a charter for potential sightings of our local marine life including seals, dolphins and orcas.
Sailors looking to venture out for a day on the ocean can find luxury private or shared sailboat tours. Regardless of previous sailing experience, guests of all ages and abilities can choose their own level of activity. Join the crew and enjoy the thrill of a hands-on experience, or sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. There are also options to join an accredited sailing school where they will 'show you the ropes'.
If you're more keen to cruise around on a powered boat and perhaps drop in a line and do some fishing, there are numerous charters to help you explore the region. Alternately, both boats and jet skis are available for rent through local outfitters.
Squamish has three marinas, each offering moorage options to help you get out onto the ocean to experience the serenity of our beautiful Howe Sound by sea.
Where to go
Travel options range in duration from short daytime trips to overnight stays to multi-day excursions to Anvil Island, the Defense Islands, Christie Island, Pam Rocks Wildlife Reserve as well as the Sunshine Coast and the many bays, coves and marine parks within Howe Sound.
Useful information
Transport Canada's Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations require all operators of pleasure craft fitted with any type of motor and used for recreational purposes to carry proof of competency on board. The most common type of proof of competency is a Pleasure Craft Operator License.
Squamish does not have a boat-specific fueling station. The closest boat fueling station is located at Sewells Marina in Horseshoe Bay, about 45 minutes by power boat from the Squamish Marina.
Overnight moorage, including a hot shower and power, is available at the Squamish Yacht Club. Contact the Port Captain or check in at the Harbour Office upon your arrival to verify privileges, instructions and visitor slip locations.
If you aren't equipped with your own boat there are several local companies that offer boat tours in Squamish and in the waters of Howe Sound. These companies know the local waters well and will guide you as you sail or cruise on our vibrant local waters.
You have your boat license, and you know how to drive a boat... but you just don't have one. Contact the team at Squamish Harbour Marine Adventures or Squamish Watersports for boat rentals. They also offer guided tours if you are looking to explore places near Squamish only accessible by boat.
